The mission of Arkansas Hospice is to enhance the quality of life for those facing terminal illness and grief by surrounding them with love and embracing them with the best in physical, emotional and spiritual care.

As a mission-driven organization, Arkansas Hospice will set the standard for end-of-life care both in our service area and beyond. We will be recognized as a national leader in patient care, customer service, employee pride and the advancement of end-of-life care through research, education and the formation of public policy. As a charitable, not-for-profit organization, Arkansas Hospice will continue to provide the same high-quality care to all in need, regardless of ability to pay.

Arkansas Hospice Volunteer Information

Arkansas Hospice volunteers help in a variety of ways. Companionship with a patient or a family member is the most usual activity, or helping with errands or transportation. Some volunteers prefer to donate their time in one of the two Arkansas Hospice inpatient facilities on a regular schedule and be available to patients who need their support. Others prefer to visit Arkansas Hospice patients who are receiving care at home or in a nursing home.

Arkansas Hospice’s 5th annual Sweetheart Saturday is just around the corner! Tell your friends and mark your calendar now for Saturday, February 14th from 1 to 3 pm. As you may remember from last year’s event, local bakeries and restaurants provided a tempting display of delicious treats for our Sweetheart Saturday guests to enjoy. The “dessert tasting” at this informative, community event was a great success in ’08, raising record proceeds to benefit Arkansas Hospice in Russellville.

In addition to the sweets provided by bakeries and restaurants, Arkansas Hospice invites other local businesses to join us in this event. It’s easy! Every business that agrees to make a donation to Arkansas Hospice in the month of February is given name recognition at the event announcing its participation as a Sweetheart Saturday sponsor.
Grab your drum, put on your favorite African attire and join us for the 10th Annual African Potluck Dinner, Drumming & Dancing Event on Saturday, February 28, 2009, from 5-8 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church (8th and Center streets, downtown Little Rock).

Arkansas Hospice Angels are an award-winning group serving terminally ill patients of Arkansas Hospice and their caregivers. Consistent with hospice philosophy, AHA brings loving, caring support and pampering services to our patients – manicures, pedicures, massages, facials, make-up and hair-styling.Volunteers are the heart and soul of this program. Donating their time and supplies, this generous group brings a little comfort, restores the pride and adds a touch of everyday life to those who are dying. The Angels also wing caregivers away for a relaxing and rejuvenating time of respite.

We have many volunteers who want to help, yet prefer other methods. Many volunteers work in our offices providing excellent and greatly appreciated support of bereavement services, fund-raising mailings, special events, community outreach and educational activities.

opportunities for students ages 14-17 years old and adult mentors. After completing training participants are able to work in nursing homes and in the hospice office. Emphasis is placed on building compassion and exposing Project SMILE members to some of the different careers available in the healthcare and hospice fields.

Students from the MedPro program at North Little Rock High School recently joined our Teatime Volunteer group. Graduating MedPro students will have the skills necessary to pass their Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) exams and begin careers as medical professionals. These students visit with patients in our North Little Rock hospice center. They help patients and their families learn how to walk with a loved one toward death. They minister in loving, caring ways to help people accept the reality that death often comes sooner than wanted and yet, in spite of the reality of pain, there is hope. Patients who prefer sanctioned members of their religious group often look to volunteer chaplains to provide the specialized services they want as death draws near. These special members of our hospice family graciously assist staff chaplains in offering tender, loving care.
