The First Tee of Northwest Arkansas Charity Profile
More and more young people are experiencing character value-driven lessons at The First Tee of Northwest Arkansas. We are teaching your son or daughter exactly what it takes to become a great citizen through our Nine Core Values - Courtesy, Respect, Judgment, Responsibility, Sportsmanship, Confidence, Honesty, Integrity and Perseverance. Our aim is to prepare them for life.
The First Tee of Northwest Arkansas Volunteer Information
Our 2009 programming is going to be built around this premise. To KEEP them involved, we must improve their golf skills. To improve their golf skills, we need to see them more often, and get them playing more. And, to do that, we need help.
In our Par(9 to 11), the Par(12 and over), and the Birdie/Eagle/Ace programming, we intend to schedule practice time for each level. The Par(9 to 11) will be practicing in the same locations they attend class, in the evening during the week. The Par (12 and over) will be practicing and playing on Saturday afternoons at a facility close to home. The Birdie/Eagle/Ace participants will be practicing at the driving ranges. In order to accomplish this, we are going to need volunteers willing to spend an hour and a half to 2 1/2 hours a week with up to 10 kids.
We will not need professional golfers, but we will need dedicated coaches. We will train you in the fundamentals of the golf swing, and you will work on the skills learned in class each week. While the practice time will not be mandatory, we are hopeful that spending time working on their golf skills will propel our participants to certifying much quicker than we presently find the process. Once their golf skills start to improve, the golf course experience will be much more enjoyable. And, once the whole picture starts to focus, we will be keeping them in programming that can enhance their character and life skills, session after session, year after year.
