Arizona Animal Welfare League, Inc. Charity Profile

Founded in 1971, The Arizona Animal Welfare League and SPCA is the state's oldest and largest no-kill shelter. Our shelter facilities provide a temporary home for nearly 2,000 dogs and cats every year, offering medical and behavioral treatment for those in need.

The mission of the Arizona Animal Welfare League and SPCA is to provide excellent care, protection and loving compassion for the life of the animals entrusted to us and to take a leadership role in promoting humane values for the benefit of all animals and people.

Our priority is to take in adoptable animals from other shelters where they might be euthanized and to care for them until each is adopted into a loving, lifetime home. We will accept owned animals by appointment only, if we have available space, and only if we think we are able to meet that individual animal's physical and emotional needs. Please understand that the AAWL / SPCA cannot accept every animal brought to our shelter immediately.

Love animals? Looking for a great place to volunteer? Donate your talent and your time to the Arizona Animal Welfare League and SPCA, and join our dynamic volunteer ranks!

Volunteers must be at least 18-years-old and must be willing to commit to six months of volunteering. If you are under the age of 18, please consider our wonderful education programs for kids and teenagers.

The AAWL / SPCA's volunteer needs include: socializing dogs and cats, assistance cleaning the kennels and the cattery, administrative tasks, landscaping, behavior protocol training, special events, adoption counseling, Thrift Store assistance - and more! We are greatly in need of volunteers at our thrift store location at 1945 W. Dunlap Avenue (Southwest corner of 19th Avenue & Dunlap). Volunteers are also needed for offsite adoptions, cleaning, and socialization at the Tempe Marketplace PetSmart and the South Mountain PetSmart!
