Habitat for Humanity of Tuscaloosa Charity Profile
Founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller, Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and homelessness worldwide and to making adequate, affordable shelter a matter of conscience and action. Habitat invites people from all faiths and walks of life to work together in partnership, building houses with families in need.
Habitat is a grassroots Christian nonprofit organization dedicated to the elimination of poverty and substandard housing worldwide; believes that every person deserves, at least, a simple and decent place in which to live and grow into all that God intends for them to be; builds or renovates houses in partnership with families who qualify for homeownership based on three criteria: need, willingness to partner with HFH and an ability to repay a no-interest mortgage works with people of all faiths and people of no faith; sells its houses at no profit, with no interest charged.

Habitat for Humanity of Tuscaloosa Volunteer Information
Habitat for Humanity of Tuscaloosa, Inc. is a volunteer-driven organization. We welcome people from all walks of life to join us as we build simple, decent, affordable houses in partnership with God and families in need. Though the vast majority have no construction experience or building skills, volunteers are involved in most phases of construction. By working side-by-side with the family who will live in the house, our volunteers experience for themselves the joy created when a family is able to realize their dream of home ownership.
Habitat volunteers contribute more than muscle. Creativity, strategy, and technical skills are among the many invaluable traits volunteers bring to the organization. With a minimal staff, Habitat for Humanity of Tuscaloosa, Inc. depends upon volunteer committees for support with projects like Family Selection, Family Support, Public Relations, Construction Skills Training, and Volunteer Services. We also offer opportunities in our ReStore, building materials recycling center.
We invite volunteers to help us build, assist in the office, work in the ReStore, serve on committees, and help with special projects that benefit the organization. Time commitments vary; some volunteers dedicate every day of the week to Habitat for Humanity of Tuscaloosa, Inc. and others spend just a few hours each month working on projects or in the ReStore. As a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity of Tuscaloosa, Inc., you can choose to volunteer as little or as often as you would like. All of these positions are a tremendous help that directly or indirectly result in the construction of simple, decent homes.

We are an independent local affiliate of Habitat International, we depend on the local community to support our homebuilding efforts. We support the efforts of Habitat for Humanity International by tithing 10% of all donations, unless the donation is restricted to be used Tuscaloosa County.
