Volunteers of America Charity Profile
Volunteers of America was founded in 1896 by Christian social reformers Maud and Ballington Booth. They envisioned a spiritual movement in the United States in which devotion to God and country could be expressed through service to one's fellow man. Volunteers of America is a national, nonprofit, spiritually based organization providing local human service programs and opportunities for individual and community involvement.
Volunteers of America Southeast, Inc., is a chartered member of the national Volunteers of America. Volunteers of America of South Alabama began in November 1980, with three group homes, and by June, 1998, was ranked in the top five of Volunteers of America's chartered corporations. In 1999 a corporate restructuring occurred creating Volunteers of America Southeast, Inc., incorporating Greater Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi. Today the Southeast affiliate has grown to be the second largest of the 38 affiliates of Volunteers of America.
Now in our second century of service, Volunteers of America is one of the nation's largest and most comprehensive human services organizations, touching the lives of nearly 1.8 million people each year in communities across the United States. Planning for the next 100 years, Volunteers of America will continue to prove that “there are no limits to caring.”
